College Woods at Lakeview is nestled in the prestigious Klarvatten neighbourhood in north Edmonton’s Lake District. When you visit, you’ll understand why Klarvatten means “clear water” in Swedish.

The community features a beautiful, spacious storm water lake and wetland in the east-central part of Klarvatten. The lake offers peaceful and relaxing views, and the chance to connect with an abundance of wildlife.

Klarvatten also features several parks, many of which are connected by strolling pedestrian pathways. Two elementary schools are also located in the adjacent Lago Lindo neighbourhood, which is connected via Klarvatten Road. UItra-convenient shopping and amenities are just minutes away at the corner of 91 Street and 167 Avenue, as well as 97 Street.

Poplar Lake

Poplar Lake, also known as Klarvatten Wetland, is a productive and diverse area west of 82 Street and north of 173 Avenue that supports over 20 species of songbirds, waterfowl and shorebirds. Be sure to take your binoculars!

The presence of open water, cattails and native grasses make the site an excellent location for waterfowl to nest, feed and raise their young. Many birds also make a stop to rest and feed during their long journey between winter and summer breeding grounds. A fringe of willow and aspen trees also provide a lush and protected area for wildlife.

The open water of this wetland is fenced and access to the water’s edge is not allowed in order to safely preserve the area for wildlife. However, two viewing platforms are located along the western edge, which include seating, bike racks and interpretive signage. A pedestrian/cycling path passes by the wetland and connects with neighbourhood sidewalks. Parking is available along the eastern edge of 82 Street.
